CHARGE

This is an advisory committee charged with reviewing current school boundaries, capacities, and policies to make a recommendation to the superintendent that will facilitate children attending the school that is closest to their home and reduce the number and cost of busses. It is believed that this will give neighborhoods a sense of ownership in their school and will increase community participation in school improvement. The superintendent will consider the committee's recommendation when making a proposal to the Board of Education to change school boundary zones.

SCHEDULE

Meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of each month in the Lincoln Center Board Room, 1201 N. Sheridan Rd., from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and give comments. It is anticipated that a proposal will be written by April and presented to the Board of Education for review. This will then be presented to the public through several open meetings held throughout the district. Currently, implementation is planned for the 2009-2010 school year.

MEETING PROTOCOL

Meetings will begin with presentations of information by advisors and invited guests. Presentations will be immediately followed by dialogue of the voting committee. Expected length of time is 45 to 60 minutes.

Audience members will then be given a chance to give feedback and ask questions about the presented information. Public comment will be given by topic, and each speaker will have a maximum of three minutes. Expected length of time is 30 minutes.

Before closing, the voting committee will discuss all information to make recommendations and decide how to proceed for the next meeting. Expected length of time is 30 minutes.
