About WPSD 60 |
The Waukegan Public School District 60 serves approximately 17,000 students in grades kindergarten through twelve. Located on Lake Michigan just south of the Wisconsin border, District 60 is composed of 24 individual schools, including 3 preschool sites, 1 kindergarten center, 14 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 1 high school composed of a ninth grade center and a 10-12 upper grade center. Additionally, there is an alternative type high school program that operates several programs leading to a high school diploma. The student body of the district is rich in diversity with most students being Hispanic (70%), 22% African-American, 7% Caucasian, and 1% of other ethnic groups. Our main goal is to help each of our students succeed in school and ultimately their lives. There are gifted and talented programs for those children who qualify. On the other hand, there are bilingual and special education programs for all students with special needs. Additionally, there are after-school and summer programs designed to help students meet some of the challenging learning situations, while also affording them the opportunity to participate in interesting and fun extensions to classroom learning. Our high school activities programs are numerous and include sports, clubs, and a wide range of other social activities. Because we are one of the largest school districts in the State of Illinois, it is possible to provide a very comprehensive academic- and activities-oriented program. Waukegan Public School District 60 is committed to its motto, "A New Day...A New Way in Waukegan Public Schools... onward and upward! Visit our district web site from your computer at http://www.wps60.org/ for additional information regarding our district, schools, programs, administration, registration, employment opportunities and features for students, parents and staff members. |
