Press Release: 09-13-2012

Cooke Magnet School has been named the winner of the Waukegan Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Club competition for the third straight year.

Cooke earned the honor by having the most students participate in the annual competition, which challenges students to sign up at the library to read 1,000 pages during summer break. It is open to all public and private elementary and middle schools in Waukegan. Cooke had 100 students sign up for the contest, and roughly one-third of the students successfully completed the challenge.

As the winning school, Cooke retains possession of a traveling trophy awarded to each year’s top school. Kindergarten teacher Ms. Jenni DelVecchio was also awarded a Nook tablet for having the most students sign up for the contest.
