Lyon Magnet Applied Learning Academy is a first through fifth grade elementary school. We are a multiracial school with an enrollment of 570 students. The student body at Lyon is comprised of students from all over the city of Waukegan, with 90 percent of the students bussed to our facility.

Our staff consists of highly qualified teachers meeting the standards of excellence as determined by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001. In addition to our classroom teachers, we are pleased to offer Art, Computer Instruction, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Reading and Writing Support by qualified staff members.

Our goal at Lyon Magnet is Applied Learning. Applied Learning embraces hands-on involvement application. Research studies show that children learn most powerfully from doing, not just hearing about ideas or learning activities. Additionally, we embrace the cultural diversity our students bring to Lyon to enhance and enrich the curriculum.
