Project Discovery:
Project Discovery is a gifted class with an advanced and accelerated curriculum in all subject areas, with a focus on math and reading. Project Discovery also includes an enrichment cycle, which enhances student learning in many areas including art, drama, STEM, and music. Students in Project Discovery will attend Little Fort Elementary School.
Admission to Project Discovery:
2nd-grade students that score in the top percentile on the winter NWEA MAP are offered an opportunity to take the CogAT 7. The CogAT 7 is administered in early March each school year.
A student's parent, teacher, or principal may recommend or request that the child take the CogAT. The district honors all requests.
Admission to Project Discovery is offered to those students scoring in the top percentile of NWEA MAP math and reading, and the 3 sections of the CogAT7 assessment. Invitation letters are sent out in the first week of April each year.
Differentiated Instruction:
Students who score highly in math or reading on assessments will receive differentiated instruction in their regular classroom at their home school. This may include enrichment activities, accelerated assignments, and participation in higher ability reading groups.
