Special Recognition and Presentations

-Staff from Waukegan High School made a brief presentation to recognize Superintendent, Theresa Plascencia, who was recently honored with a “Excellence in Character” award from the College of Lake County. 

-Representatives from Waukegan to College gave a presentation about CReaTe, its new parent text messaging service. 


Action Items

-The Board of Education voted to approve the request of request of General Legal Counsel for approval of his Special Civic Responsibility Leave Request for SY20. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve a facility usage waiver for the Waukegan Arts Council event on September 21, 2019 in the Trapp Auditorium. This event will feature a wide variety of dance steps such as ballet, jazz, contemporary , lyrical, hip hop, step and Mexican Folk, which will be performed by dance groups from across Lake County including several from Waukegan. The purpose of the event is to provide a cultural environment opportunity for Waukegan students and residents. Total estimate value of waiver is $7,970.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the Teaching and Learning Department to contract Partnership Plus Pearson to provide ongoing Professional Development to staff for FY20 at a cost of $350,000

-The Board of Education voted to approve the Department of Teaching and Learning to process a corrected/updated invoice in the amount of $47,446.11 in order to purchase the EM4 Math Materials.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal contract of Illuminate Data and Assessment System for 2019-2020 at a cost of $145,661. Illuminate serves as the district's system to facilitate the efficient collection, sharing, and analysis of student assessment and related data. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal contract of NWEA MAP for 2019-2020 at a cost of $145,000. NWEA serves as the District's main local assessment used to measure the progress of students in math and reading.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the contract with Advocate and Instructional Expert for People with Autism in the amount of $10,845.


Personnel Items

-The Board of Education voted to authorize the attendance of Gwendolyn Polk, Associate Superintendent of Business and Finance Department, to attend the 2019 National Alliance of Black School Educators 47th Annual Conference in Dallas. The conference dates are November 13-17, 2019. Estimated cost is $1,800 which includes conference registration fee, travel, lodging and meals per diem.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations and retirements of 134 employees. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve the change in title for the current Payroll Lead to Payroll Manager. The position title change will also bring a $10,000 increase in salary from $63,392.84 to $73,392.84, effective July 1, 2019.


Information Items

-The Board of Education reviewed revisions to the following policies: Policy 4103, Employment Qualifications - Background Checks; and Policy 5215 Non-Social Promotion Grades K-12.

-The Board of Education discussed its current fee waiver policy. No action was taken at the meeting.
