Special Recognitions and Presentations
- Representatives from Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority made a presentation in memory of Ms. Isabelle Buckner, the former Principal at Carman-Buckner Elementary School. A celebration of her life will be held December 14 at Carman-Buckner Elementary.
- The Board of Education recognized District schools that recently eared Commendable and Exemplary designations with the State of Illinois. 
- Staff from Miguel Juarez Middle School made a special presentation detailing the schools restorative practice measures.  


Action Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve all facility usage fees be waived for Ballet Folklorico Tayahua in regard to their dress rehearsal on October 18, 2019 at Brookside Campus in the Trapp Auditorium. Total fees equaled $1,108.
-The Board of Education voted to approve all facility usage fees pertaining to Beacon Place holiday party event at Cooke Magnet School on December 14, 2019. Total value of fee waiver is $1,566.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of paper at a cost of $47,560.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the retroactive reimbursement of travel fees for Cameron Spencer, who attended the Project Lead The Way Training in August. Incurred fees total 1,222.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the Information Technology Services Department to pay an additional $67,000 to Securly for the Student Content Web Filtering Contract. Securly allows the district to comply with CIPA federal law and E-Rate requirements. The ITS Department has renewed its annual contract for three years for $106,000, to be paid in full which resulted in the district receiving two discounts in the amount of 10% and $38,720.00 for being a repeat customer. The department is not requesting additional funds as the amount will be transferred from one account to another.  


Personnel Items
-The Board of Education voted to retroactively approve reimbursement to Ryan Hawkins, MTSS Coordinator, for his attendance at the AASA SEL Cohort Meeting and National Summit from October 12 - 15, 2019 in the amount of $336.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Roberto Silva and Kimberly George, principal and assistant principal, to attend the NABSE 2019 conference in Dallas, Texas on November 13-17. Estimated conference costs are $2,136.97 per person, which includes conference registration fee, travel, lodging and meals per diem.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of six Board Members and the Superintendent to attend the 2020 National School Boards Association Conference in Chicago on April 4-6 at an estimated cost of $2,000 per person. The estimated cost includes registration, hotel, meals and travel. Board Members attending include: Mr. Brandon Ewing, Mr. Michael Rodriguez, Ms. Anita Hanna, Mr. Rick Riddle, Mr. Jeff McBride, Ms. Lucy Leguizamo. As well as the Superintendent, Ms. Theresa Plascencia.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations and retirements of 21 employees, including the appointment of Nicole Maki as 9th grade Director at WHS.  
-The Board of Education voted to approve a consultancy agreement with Ms. Anne Zahn in the amount of $25,500. his agreement between WPS and Ms. Zahn is in reference to Award Number U411C190169 from the US Department of Education, Education Innovation Research(EIR) grant, to implement the Innovative STEM/Computer Science (STEM CSED) Project 84.411C in the Waukegan School District.  As the writer of the grant proposal, Ms. Zahn will provide consultation for one calendar year from October 2019 to October 2020 for up to 25 hours per month at the rate of $85.00 per hour to be paid out of the grant funds.  The total amount of compensation will not exceed $25,500.
