Waukegan Public Schools stand with our community members who have been affected by the injustices still permeating within our society, and we extend our support to our black students, staff and families during this time of crisis. Racism and social injustice have no place in our schools, and we will continue to support our community while striving to create an inclusive learning environment where all students and staff feel safe and have the opportunity to learn and thrive. Our District has prioritized and promoted equity and education to our staff, students, and community, and will continue to harness these beliefs. 

In recent days we have been focused on the nationwide events of injustice and unfair treatment still affecting people of color. Recent tragedies and the underlying issues which led to them fill us all with sadness. We support our community in talking about their differences, their privileges, and how we can all be allies in the fight for justice. We are confident our community will come together with compassion and stand shoulder to shoulder to advocate for change, and we are proud to see so many of our students find their voice, stand up, and speak out against racial injustice. 

We know our students will continue to be advocates for justice. Generations of change in our community and our nation can be traced back to young people standing bravely for their beliefs. We know the fight for equality is rarely an easy one, but as a school district, we vow to support our students, staff, and families in this ongoing struggle for justice. 

We must continue to have courageous conversations and support and educate each other. The only way forward is together.

Las Escuelas Públicas de Waukegan se unen con los miembros de nuestra comunidad que han sido afectados por las injusticias que aún están en nuestra sociedad, y extendemos nuestro apoyo al personal y las familias de nuestros estudiantes afroamericanos durante este tiempo de crisis. El racismo y la injusticia social no tienen lugar en nuestras escuelas, y continuaremos apoyando a nuestra comunidad mientras nos esforzamos por crear un ambiente de aprendizaje inclusivo donde todos los estudiantes y el personal se sientan seguros y tengan la oportunidad de aprender y prosperar. Nuestro Distrito ha priorizado y promovido la equidad y la educación para nuestro personal, estudiantes y comunidad, y seguiremos implementando estas creencias.

En los últimos días, nos hemos centrado en los eventos nacionales de injusticia y trato injusto que aún afectan a las personas de color. Las tragedias recientes y las cuestiones subyacentes que las provocaron nos llenan de tristeza. Apoyamos a nuestra comunidad para hablar sobre sus diferencias, sus privilegios y cómo todos podemos ser aliados en la lucha por la justicia. Confiamos en que nuestra comunidad se unirá con compasión y se unirá hombro a hombro para abogar por el cambio, y estamos orgullosos de ver a muchos de nuestros estudiantes encontrar su voz, ponerse de pie y hablar en contra de la injusticia racial.

Sabemos que nuestros estudiantes continuarán siendo defensores de la justicia. Las generaciones de cambio en nuestra comunidad y nuestra nación se remontan a los jóvenes que defienden con valentía sus creencias. Sabemos que la lucha por la igualdad rara vez es fácil, pero como distrito escolar, nos comprometemos a apoyar a nuestros estudiantes, personal y familias en esta lucha continua por la justicia.

Debemos continuar teniendo conversaciones valientes y apoyarnos y educarnos mutuamente. La única forma de avanzar es juntos.
