Special Recognitions and Presentations
Members of the Jefferson renaming committees gave a presentation detailing the process they undertook to to rename the schools, and three finalists were presented to the Board of Education. Finalists or Jefferson include: Barack and Michelle Obama Middle School, John Lewis Middle School, and Dolores Huerta & Cesar Chavez Middle School. Finalists for Webster include: Ellen Ochoa Middle School, Katherine Johnson Middle Schools and Edith Smith Middle School. 

Action Items:
The Board of Education voted approve the purchase of student furniture for Glenwood Elementary School in the amount of $23,163. The purchase includes:
11 Horseshoe Activity Tables, 70 Sit or Stand student desks, and 100 Wobble stools.
The Board of Education voted to an agreement to have nine buildings complete a Teaching for Problem Solving Cohort with Dr. Takahashi for a total of nine separate contracts of $3,000 to $5,000 into one consolidated contract of $44,300. The time period will be 2 hours weekly for 10 weeks (20 hours total). Lesson Study is the model of Japanese of teacher-led professional development in which a team of teachers work together to target an identified area for development in their students’ learning. Using existing evidence, participants collaboratively research, plan, teach and observe a series of lessons, using ongoing discussion, reflection and expert input to track and refine their interventions.

The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations and retirements of 11 employees.
The Board of Education voted to adopt/approve a Resolution for Participation in the Teacher's Retirement System of the State of Illinois Supplemental Savings Plan and authorize the Superintendent or her designee to submit required documentation to the Illinois Teacher's Retirement System. Illinois law – 40 ILCS 5/16-204 – requires Teachers’ Retirement System to offer an optional defined contribution benefit to eligible active members of the System. To comply with this law, TRS has contracted with Voya Financial to develop and offer the TRS Supplemental Savings Plan (SSP). The SSP is a 457(b) retirement plan. The participation agreement is required by Section 457(b) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and must be formally adopted, signed and returned to the System in order for an employer’s TRS-covered members to be eligible to participate in the SSP. The agreement must be completed and returned by every employer in order to meet the requirements of ILCS 5/16-204.
The Board of Education voted approve and authorize the Board President to execute Amendment No. 9 to the Superintendent's Employment Agreement. The Superintendent's progress in addressing the performance goals established by the Board of Education is reviewed annually.  The Board conducted its review during February and determined that the Superintendent's performance was satisfactory or better.
