The deadline to submit applications for Waukegan Public Schools’ Student Board Member position is being extended to Sunday, December 11. This is to allow students an extra weekend to complete required materials. 

The Student Board Member position is open to all qualified WHS juniors and seniors. The position is a non-voting member of the Board of Education who acts as a liaison between the students and School Board. The selected student is given time on each School Board Meeting agenda to speak regarding student concerns, curriculum, and activities.  A reminder of requirements can be found below. 

Student Board Member Application Requirements: A student must meet the following requirements to apply for the position of Student Board Member:

1. Be a WHS junior or sophomore student during the 2022-2023 school year.

2. Have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

3. Submit a one-page personal bio (double-spaced) outlining your abilities, goals, and reasons why you are the best choice as a Student Board Member.

4. Submit written responses to the following questions:

      a. Why are you interested in being a Student Board Member?

      b. What do you feel is the most important issue that Waukegan students face today?

      c. How would you engage your fellow students to ensure their voices are heard?

5. Provide one written reference from a teacher, administrator, or community member.

6. Provide contact information, including phone number and/or e-mail address.

The WHS student body will vote on which qualified applicants they would like to see represent students. The top two vote-getters will participate in an interview process with the Board of Education. The naming of the Student Board Member will take place in January 2023. The term of the position is from January 2023-January 2024.
