Now that we are in September, Waukegan Public Schools will begin conducting state-mandated safety drills required each year in all of our buildings. These drills include fire, lockdown, bus evacuation, and tornado or shelter-in-place exercises. Each one plays an important role in helping students and staff know how to respond in the event of an emergency.

We make every effort to conduct these drills in a calm, structured environment. Our goal is to minimize disruptions to learning while keeping students – especially our youngest learners – comfortable and reassured.

Your child may mention these drills at home, and we encourage you to remind them that these practices are routine, just like any other part of the school day, and are designed to keep everyone safe.
