At last night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board authorized the District to begin the process of exploring a sale of our Welcome Center building at 742 Greenwood Avenue. The District has owned this property for nearly 20 years, and it was home to student registration and evaluation services. Since the opening of our new Educational Services Center in downtown Waukegan this summer, the building has been largely vacant. The few remaining staff members will be transitioned to other District locations in the near future.
The Board’s action reflects our commitment to using resources wisely and avoiding the ongoing costs of maintaining facilities that are no longer needed. Selling the property will allow us to reduce operational expenses and better focus our resources on areas that directly support students. This decision will not impact any student services.
We are sharing this update to keep our stakeholders informed about this important step. The sale process will move forward in the coming months, with additional opportunities for the Board to review and approve any final agreements. En la reunión de la Mesa Directiva de Educación de anoche, la Mesa autorizó al Distrito a iniciar el proceso de exploración para la venta de nuestro Centro de Bienvenida, ubicado en 742 Greenwood Avenue. El Distrito ha sido propietario de este edificio durante casi 20 años, y albergaba los servicios de inscripción y evaluación de estudiantes. Desde la apertura de nuestro nuevo Centro de Servicios Educativos en el centro de Waukegan este verano, el edificio ha estado prácticamente vacío. El personal restante se trasladará a otras instalaciones del Distrito próximamente.
La decisión de la Mesa Directiva refleja nuestro compromiso de utilizar los recursos de forma responsable y evitar los costos constantes de mantenimiento de instalaciones que ya no se necesitan. La venta de la propiedad nos permitirá reducir los gastos operativos y enfocar mejor nuestros recursos en áreas que apoyan directamente a los estudiantes. Esta decisión no afectará ningún servicio estudiantil.
