Twenty-seven Waukegan High School students were honored this week after being named 2026-20227 Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC).
Students were recognized during a special ceremony celebrating their outstanding academic achievement. The Illinois State Scholar designation is awarded annually to high-performing students across the state. WHS students were recognized based on unweighted GPA, and ACT or SAT scores, placing recipients among the top 10 percent of students statewide.
Each student selected as an Illinois State Scholar receives a congratulatory letter and a Certificate of Achievement from ISAC in recognition of their hard work and academic excellence.
Waukegan High School 2026 awardees included: Antwuan Butler, Bryant Campoverde, Matthew Canda, Jamil Chuc, Ileny Diaz, Yasir Espinoza, Brandon Garibay, Leah Gonzales, Javier Granda, Alejandro Gutierrez-Trujillo, Alexis Ingersoll, Adarel Lechuga, Jose Mendoza Jr., Angel Morales, Bryan Nava, Happy Nguyen, Sofia Pineda, Kevin Reyes, Aaron Reyes Jr., Leonardo Rivera, Katherine Sajuan, Nelson Sanchez, Denisse Silva, Tiffani Skinner, Celeste Smith, Jazmin Solis, and Alyssa Warmington.
