Project Discovery Information Night

Project Discovery Information Night at Little Fort Elementary
Posted on 04/03/2026

Little Fort Elementary School invites elementary families across Waukegan Public Schools to learn more about Project Discovery, a program designed for students who benefit from accelerated and enriched learning opportunities.

Project Discovery is a self-contained program at Little Fort that offers a more rigorous academic experience for students ready to go beyond grade-level expectations. Students in grades 3 to 5 engage in advanced coursework, explore complex topics, and apply their learning through hands-on, real-world projects. Instruction includes extended learning in English Language Arts, accelerated math, and hands-on science through a rotating cycle of physical, life, and earth sciences, along with opportunities for cross-grade collaboration and enrichment.

Students are identified for Project Discovery through a combination of academic performance, NWEA Math and Reading data, and teacher recommendations. Students who meet initial criteria will be invited to take the CoGAT assessment, which measures reasoning and problem-solving skills, to help determine program placement.

Families of current 2nd-grade students interested in learning more are encouraged to attend an Information Night at the school, 1775 Blanchard Street, on April 15 from 5:30 p.m to 7 p.m., where they will hear from teachers, view examples of student work, and learn more about the program and identification process.
