Action Items

-The Board of Education voted to approve the amendments to Board Policy 3331, Work Expenditures - Controls as recommended by the Administration and presented for second reading. Policy 3331 was presented to the Board for first reading on April 7, 2020 under its then title Travel Expenditures - Controls.  Second reading is presented with the updated and expanded title of Work Related Expenditures - Controls.  Minor technical changes are made in the second reading.  Costs associated with this policy will vary from year to year and cannot be predicted at this time.  The funding source similarly will vary depending on the originating source of the approved work expenditure.   However, we anticipate the majority will be funded through the Education Fund. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve the Child Nutrition Services contract renewal for one year with Preferred Meals for FY21 at an estimated cost of $6,414,433.20. Per the contract renewal terms, the maximum allowable percentage increase of .7% and the new minimum wage increase adds a 2.6% increase totaling an increase of 3.3%.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the annual renewal for Transportation Services with PACE Regional Transportation Authority at a cost of $693,411 for the 2020-2021 school year. Funds to cover this expenditure are in the regular Transportation Fund. This payment provides riding passes for eligible students at both high school campuses (Washington and Brookside) and for the Alternative Optional Education Center for the 2020-2021 school year. The cost represents a 2% increase cost of $679,815 for the 2019-2020 school year.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of the new PDS Aruba WiFi infrastructure. The estimated cost for this project is $910,864.72 and the district is responsible for $400,864.70.

-The Board of Education voted to  approve the contract renewal for the Palo Alto firewall support. The cost for this contract is $60,000.00 and the district is responsible for $9,000.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the contract renewal for the CISCO Meraki License. The cost for this contract is $80,995.80 and the district is responsible for $12,149.37.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of the new Frontline Staff Development System (SDS) for three years of services. The cost for the first year is $49,899.68. The cost for year two will be $41,179.68 and $44,361 for year three.The existing Staff Development System (SDS) is outdated. The SDS was internally programmed and configured by the Information Technology Department fourteen years ago. The district has outgrown the capabilities of the current SDS. A new SDS is needed to facilitate the current staff needs and to be aligned with State regulations and district goals. The cost for a three years contract is 135,440.36.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of the EAB-District Leadership Forum partnership in the amount of $31,000. Forum members receive unlimited access to our subject-matter experts to serve as an extension of their team. By leveraging our national best-practice research and district specific on-demand research projects, we help members implement best practices and accelerate execution against district initiatives.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the EBS Vendor Services contract. There is no cost to the services as costs are applied to vendors contracting staff to Waukegan Public Schools.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the policy suspensions as stated in the COVID 19 Board Resolution #3. The proposed policy suspensions are temporary in nature and necessary due to changes in planned programming, directives of the State Superintendent of Education and the direct threat the novel coronavirus 2019 posses to the health and safety of the District's essential workers whose job responsibilities require them to be on site for an extended period of the day.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations and retirements of 10 employees.
