Special Message logoThe deadline to apply for the open Student Board Member position is less than a week away. Qualified sophomores and juniors have until 11:59 p.m. on December 6 to apply to serve a 1-year term as a non-voting member on the Waukegan Public Schools Board of Education.

The Student Board Member is a non-voting member of the Board of Education who acts as a liaison between the students and school board. The selected student is given time on each School Board Meeting agenda to speak regarding student concerns, curriculum, and activities.

A student must meet the following requirements to apply for the position of Student Board Member:
1. Be a WHS junior or sophomore student during the 2020-2021 school year.
2. Have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
3. Submit a one-page personal bio (double-spaced) outlining a student's abilities, goals, and reasons why he/she is the best choice as a Student Board Member.
4. Submit written responses to the following questions:
a. Why are you interested in being a Student Board Member?
b. What do you feel is the most important issue that Waukegan students face today?
c. How would you engage your fellow students to ensure their voices are heard?
5. Provide one written reference from a teacher, administrator, or community member.
6. Provide contact information, including phone number and/or e-mail address.
