The Waukegan Community Unit School District #60 Board of Education has appointed Waukegan High School students Trinity Hemphill and Adrian Jimenez to serve as Student Board Members for the 2026-2027 school year.
Trinity, a rising sophomore at the Brookside Campus, and Adrian, a rising junior at the Washington Campus, were appointed this week to serve as liaisons between the student body and the Board of Education through June 2027.
Trinity is actively involved at WHS. She serves as a Student Ambassador at the Brookside Campus and has also participated in the Business Club and Future Medical Professionals. Outside of school, she has volunteered at homeless shelters, enjoys playing guitar and piano, and works to help younger children learn to play.
As a Student Board Member, Trinity said she hopes to make sure students’ voices are heard accurately and respectfully. “I’m most excited about making sure that every student who wants their voices and opinions heard has them heard and voiced accurately and respectfully through me. I hope to improve the bridge between students and board members so that we can all flourish,” she said. She also hopes to advocate for equality across Waukegan schools.
Adrian is involved in a variety of activities at WHS, including SkillsUSA, where he serves as vice president, as well as JROTC, Scholastic Bowl, Medics, Color Guard, CyberPatriot, JROTC Drum Corps, JLAB, and debate, where he serves as co-president. Outside of school, he enjoys dancing folklórico, cooking, and volunteering through JROTC.
As a Student Board Member, Adrian said he is excited about the opportunity to serve as a liaison between students and the Board of Education. “One thing I’m really excited about is being a liaison between the student body and the Board and helping share students’ concerns,” he said. He added that he is passionate about supporting students, improving school conditions, and looks forward to serving the school community in his new role.
Trinity and Adrian will have the opportunity to address the Board during public meetings, share student perspectives on curriculum, culture, and activities, and help communicate Board initiatives to their peers. They will also work to gather student input through various engagement efforts across both campuses.
