For the second year in a row, Waukegan High School senior bowler Diego Cortez has earned All-State honors. Diego placed 9th at the IHSA State Bowling Finals on January 31 and February 1.

During the two day tournament, Diego earned a 12-game total score of 2,636, which included one perfect game. For the second year in a row, he earned the top score among all Lake County bowlers, after a 6th place finish in 2019.

Diego qualified for the State Finals following superb performance in the IHSA Regional and Sectional tournaments. In addition to individual success, Diego also saw his team reach new milestones. In the boys bowling team’s second year of competing, they finished 3rd in its conference, 4th at Regionals, and qualified for the Sectional meet.

“We are extremely proud of Diego, for his individual accomplishments, as well as his impact as a leader,” said WHS Athletic Director, Ms. Colette Erbach. “It’s exciting to see Diego and the rest of the team reach this level of success.”
