Waukegan Public Schools will host a free meal distribution event for families during Spring Break on Monday, March 24 at the Waukegan High School-Brookside Campus, 2325 Brookside Avenue. Meals will be available between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Families can pick up food by driving up to door 25, which is located at the back of the Brookside Campus. Families will be asked to stay in their cars, and students are not required to be present to pick up meals.

PowerSchool recently notified us of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to data through its PowerSource customer support portal. The breach, which was discovered on December 28, 2024, affected certain users of PowerSchool’s Student Information System (SIS). However, Waukegan Public Schools does not use PowerSchool SIS, and our systems and data were not impacted by this incident.

Holiday Break Meal Distribution - December 21

Waukegan Public Schools will host a free meal distribution event on Saturday, December 21 at the Waukegan High School-Brookside Campus. Meals will be available between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Families can pick up food by driving up to door 29, which is located at the back of the Brookside Campus. Families will be asked to stay in their cars, and students are not required to be present to pick up meals.

Upcoming Winter Assessments

As we enter the last stretch of the school year before Winter Break all students across the district will be participating in Middle-of-Year assessments. This time starts an important series of district-wide check-ins where student progress is measured in a few ways and communicated to you. Student attendance will be important. Individual school schedules will vary and may be communicated to you by the building principal. Individual student results will be sent home with students in January.

Waukegan High School Co-Principal Daniel Hill has been named the Illinois Principals' Association's (IPA) Lake Region High School Principal of the Year. Mr. Hill, who leads the Washington Campus and AOEC, received the honor from the IPA’s Lake Region this month. He is one of four educators throughout Lake County recognized by the organization. As the regional winner, Mr. Hill will now be a nominee for statewide recognition in 2025.

I am writing today with an important message about an incident that occurred in one of our elementary schools this week. A staff member used derogatory terms that are unacceptable while talking with students about the harmful impact of racial slurs, after an alleged offensive comment was reported to have been made in the classroom. As Superintendent, and a mother, I am offended and hurt to hear that this language was used. These words do not reflect the values of our staff, our school district, or the Waukegan community.
