Action Items

-The Board of Education voted to approve the Board Resolution - Annual Waiver of Facilities Use Fees for Certain Non-Profit Organizations. This Resolution will establish an efficient means of granting annual facilities-use fee waivers to non-profit organizations who use District facilities on a regular basis. The Resolution anticipates periodic renewal or amendments (to include other parties) through a simple follow-up Resolution. 

-The Board of Education voted to renew the contract with Navigate 360, the parent company of ALiCE Training Institute , for electronic training applications associated with Alert Lockdown inform Counter and Evacuate procedures. The three (3) year contract term for recurring services begins on September 1, 2021 and ends August 31, 2024. The total cost of the contract is $45,375 or $15,125 annually.

-The Board of Education voted to retroactively approve the venue agreement between Waukegan Public Schools (WPS) and the Chicago Bears Football Club, Inc. The agreement allowed the Chicago Bears to use Weiss Field on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 6:30pm-7:30pm, free of charge. The total amount being waived is $508.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the replacement of the deteriorated lintels at Whittier Elementary School by Broadview-based JLJ Contracting Inc. The total cost for repairs is $142,560. The masonry company working on the tuckpointing project at Whittier Elementary's original building discovered that the condition at the lintels above the windows were poor.  Steel that was embedded in the masonry walls since the building was new is now badly rusted.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of ReadyGen resources for quarter two to support our curriculum maps for Kindergarten through grade five in the amount of $87,731.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of text resources for quarter two to support our curriculum maps for Kindergarten through grade five in the amount of $299,763.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of English as a second language materials for EL students in grades six through twelve in the amount of $35,995.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the expenditure of $111,975 to purchase Science materials from Hand 2 Mind for K-5 classroom use.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase the first shipment of white paper for FY22 from Office Depot at a cost not to exceed $44,100.


Personnel Items

-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointment and resignations of 63 employees. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Ms. Gwen Polk and Ms. Bridget Dotson, to attend the  NABSE Conference on November 10-14, 2021 in Los Angeles, California at the estimated cost of $4,363, which includes: Registration, Travel, Hotel Accommodations and Per Diem.

-The Board of Education voted to retroactively approve the Professional Development request for Mr. Roberto Ochoa-Barajas for Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor Certification. The cost is $1,260.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the recommendation of the General Counsel to engage Hogan Marren Babbo & Rose Ltd. to represent the District in OCR complaint # 05-21-1148 in light of the departure of the District's Deputy General Counsel who was handling the matter at an estimated cost of $25,000. Additionally, the Board approved the General Counsel's recommendation to appoint Franczek, PC to serve as the District's legal counsel in the special education due process complaint # 2021-DP-0134 at a cost of $30,000. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve a EIR Grant STEM Specialist position to support the work of the EIR Grant in the amount not to exceed $45,000.


Information Items

-Staff gave a presentation to the Board about the first two weeks of school, including details on attendance, registration, COVID safety measures and positive COVID cases.
