Spotlight on 60 highlighted Lyon Magnet Elementary School’s Community Time initiative.

Ty Rohrer, of the Waukegan Historic Preservation Commission spoke about the landmarking process as it is outlined in the City’s preservation ordinance. This was related to an application submitted about the Lincoln Center wall. 


Action Items

The Board of Education voted to approve the contract renewal agreement between WPS60 and Scribbles Software to allow former students online access to request transcripts and other student records.

The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of Lego Education sets in the amount of $268,740. As part of the EIR Grant, the Academic Supports and Programs (ASAP) Team would like to purchase Lego Education Sets that will be used by Cohort 1 and 2 teachers at the following schools: Juarez, Abbott, Carmen, Clearview, Clark, Greenwood, Little Fort, McCall, Washington, and Whittier.  The Lego Kits will be distributed below and will be replacing older versions of the same Lego kit.

The Board of Education voted to approve the agreement with Gering Consulting, LLC in the amount of $39,750. The Academic Supports and Programs (ASAP) team is requesting a partnership with Gering Consulting LLC to provide executive leadership coaching to our three HS Principals.  Services will focus on individual and collective coaching to support professional growth and implementation of the High School Transformation Plan. 

The Board of Education voted to approve the Facility Rental Waiver request for Simpson Elite LLC. The waiver request is for the Simpson Elite Top Prospect Run Event to be held at both Washington Campus and Miguel Juarez Middle School September 3-18, 2022. Total invoiced is $2,298.

The Board of Education voted to approve the Facility Fee Waiver Request for the staging of the Fiesta Patrias Parade held at Miguel Middle School on September 18, 2022. The amount invoiced is $120.

The Board of Education voted to approve the Facility Rental Waiver Request for Urban Edge Entertainment to host the Pass the Torch Conference as well as the Thanksgiving Tournament. Both events are scheduled to take place on November 25, 2022 at WHS-Washington Campus. The total amount invoiced is $3,069.

The Board of Education voted to approve the replacement of Lyon Elementary School's exterior school sign at a cost of $25,478.

The Board of Education voted to approve a one-year contract extension with Safeway Transportation Services for the 2022-2023 school year to support McKinney-Vento and Diverse Learner transportation services in the amount of $1,522,481.


The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal of Reading A to Z for the purpose of digital informational and literary texts in both Spanish and English for the amount of $112,318.

The Board of Education voted to approve the services from HeyTutor for the purpose of daily, in-person, intervention/tutoring and acceleration opportunities at each elementary, middle and the high school for the amount of $1,672,650. This service will replace Varsity Tutors.

The Board of Education voted to approve an amendment to the June 22, 2021, master cooperative procurement agreement with Johnson Controls Inc. for additional mechanical enhancements, as recommended by the Administration, and authorize the Superintendent or her designee to approve the associated statement of work for each project with a total gross maximum authority of $3,000,000. This contract amendment supports the District's efforts to continue to update its air quality and ventilation systems in the school buildings in order to provide an improved school environment to support student learning. 

The Board of Education voted to authorize the service agreement with ConservFS for the 2022-2023 school year in the amount of $30,000. The Operations department is recommending a service agreement with ConservFS for bulk salt for the 2022-2023 school year.  This will allow for immediate delivery upon order, ensuring no downtime.  This will provide a more efficient option for bulk salt than ordering through the Illinois Department of Central Management Services.

The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments and resignation of 19 employees. 

The Board of Education voted to  approve and appoint Mr. Edward Wong III of DelGaldo Law Group as the Board Hearing Officer for student discipline and suspension appeal cases and employee cases as the need arises.

The Board of Education voted to approve the creation of an EPIC Program Parent Facilitator position at an estimated salary of $45,000.

The Board of Education voted to approve the contractual agreement between WPS60 and Kayla Wolf, former paralegal so that Ms. Wolf can continue to assist on a limited basis with work focused primarily on FOIA. The total estimated amount is between $5,400 and $7,200.

The Board of Education voted to approve the Clark Elementary request for attendance for Rosanna Cardenas and Jennifer Cabrera at the annual La Cosecha Dual Language Conference from November 1 to November 5, 2022 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, not to exceed $6,000.

The Board of Education voted to approve the professional development request for Jason Forbrook, Shweta Perswal, and Cristin Maione to attend the National Association of Biology Teachers conference in Indianapolis, IN from November 9-13 at a cost of $4,200

The Board of Education voted to authorize the attendance of the Superintendent, Theresa Plascencia, Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Eduardo Cesario and Associate Superintendent, Dr. Jason Nault to attend the AASA National Conference in San Antonio, TX (Feb 15th-18th) at an estimated cost of $3,200 per attendee or $9,600 total.
